The engraving process

Browse Lettering Styles

Together, we look at different lettering styles and decide which type works best with the stone you’ve chosen.

Digitize the Design

Our designer turns your inscription and any custom elements (images, symbols, epitaphs) into a layout for your review.

Stencil the Stone

The approved digital rendering is plotted onto a stencil which we transfer to your slab of granite.

Engrave by Hand

We use a combination of laser-etching, sandblasting, and hand-engraving—all overseen by an artisan in New Holland, PA.

Engraving Services

Yes, We Do Engraving On-Site

We’re happy to travel to your designated cemetery to do the work, where we can match the typography and engraving style on-site. It doesn’t matter if you purchased the monument from us or another company.

What Makes a Good Engraving?

A good engraving is crisp, with proper depth and strong contrast between polished and frosted areas. Details like leaves and flowers are shaped, not flat. There’s no paint to cover up poor results.

This is exactly how our in-house craftsmen have been engraving monuments for 180+ years. Call us old-fashioned, but we believe a forever tribute is worth the time and skill.
