There are literally hundreds of types and colors of granite from around the world. Only a few dozen are suitable for monuments, and only a dozen or so provide exceptional sandblast results, retaining their durability for generations to come. Weaver Memorials is very selective so that the granite we offer looks great now and forever.
Actually, no. A good engraving will be crisp and sharp, with proper depth and strong contrast between polished and frosted areas. Details like leaves and flowers will be shaped, not flat. There shouldn’t be any paint covering up poor results.
Our in-house craftsmen have been engraving monuments “the old-fashioned way” for over 175 years. We believe a forever tribute is worth the time and skill to do it right.
Painting over sandblast is a way to hide poor craftsmanship or poor granite quality (or both). It’s a way to cut corners in hopes the customer doesn’t notice. Good quality granite and properly engraved monuments don’t need to be painted and are legible without it. Paint also tends to chip/bleed out over time, further defacing the monument. Weaver Memorials does not paint engravings unless specifically requested by the customer.
Prior to 2021, delivery used to take around 3–4 months. Due to unprecedented order volumes in the industry combined with supply chain issues, delivery now takes anywhere from 6–9 months depending on the product type. If a monument company is quoting less than 6 months to deliver, make sure the delivery date is written on your contract “or it’s free” if delivered thereafter.
Quarry-direct provides us with “first pick” rights on the best granite, reserved for exclusive Rock of Ages dealers like Weaver Memorials. Outside manufacturers may not be as scrupulous and always receive second-best quality, or worse.
North American granite quarries offer consistently superior quality when compared to materials from China and India. The stone is more durable, produces crisper and more vivid engravings, and won’t fade or show water stains over time. North American granite also arrives faster than overseas products and allows you to invest in American production.
Quarry-direct monument companies work with the quarry firsthand to obtain your granite. This approach reduces markup and improves quality control and overall value/price. Funeral homes and cemetery caretakers often use third-party vendors and outside manufacturers. The stone quality and even quarry of origin may be unknown, and it can take longer to receive your monument. You’ll also be paying an inflated price due to middleman markups.
